Members from Costa Rico, Mexico, Kenmore, WA, Panama, Puerto Rico, & Pullman, WA Carlos Eduardo Cascante Velásquez was born January 13 of 1975 in the small town of Liberia, Costa Rica into a family of musicians and artists. At the age of seven, Carlos joined ‘El Ballet Folkloric de Ortega’ lead by his uncle José Norman Cascante. After dancing with the group for one year, Carlos entered his first contest as a singer and surprisingly won first place. By family tradition, Carlos also learned to play the guitar at the age of 13. In 1994 Carlos moved to San Jose, Costa Rica to attend the University. Here Carlos started playing with a professional group, and, for the first time, he considered music as a possible career. Agrupacion Contra Via gave him the opportunity to explore the scene as a vocalist and guitar. One year later, Carlos met U.S. native, Dusti Walker. They married, and moved to the U.S. In 1996 Carlos Cascante created his first ensemble “Azucar” with Emiliano Benavides and Jaime Johnson.
